The 5 News Week: Michael Cole On How Long He's Going To Commentate, WWE Has No Plans For TLC 2020?

Hello, my fellow wrestling fans and welcome to the 5 news week. The post where I report 5 major or minor news of the week that I don't have time to do it separately.

By the way, this is the last 5 News Weeks post before I post a look-back article. 2020 has been a great year for The 5 News Week so thank you guys so much for checking out this series.

Whether you're new or have been rocking with me since the first 5 news Week 2 years ago.

Without further ado, here are the 5 news week.

Michael Cole On How Long He's Going To Commentate.

Michael Cole is like the 2017 film, "Mother!". You either love it or hate it.

Cole's play by play commentator role was talked about in an interview with the Gorilla Position podcast.

At one point, the voice of Smackdown mentioned how long he's going to commentate for (from Sorta Post-Wrestling):

"That’s the one thing. I’ve been able to evolve over the years and just stay steady and listen, I wanna do this, at least for a few more years.

I’d love to make it to 25 years on the air in the company.

I think that would be tremendous, and I think it would be something that has never been done before and I still have a love for what I do and until that goes away, you’re gonna be stuck with me. For better or for worse.”

As I've mentioned before but with a joke, Michael Cole is divisive among wrestling fans.

Which is understandable because, on one hand, his run on Smackdown during the Ruthless Aggression period was fantastic.

However, on the other, his heel stick almost a decade ago was painfully bad.

Overall, I lean into liking Cole as a commentator.

GLOW Star, Alison Brie Comments On Whether They'll Be A GLOW Movie.

GLOW was supposed to be filmed this year but it didn't happen and as a result, the show, unfortunately, got axed.

But, the actor that played the main character "Ruth Wilder", Alison Brie, gave an insight as to whether they'll be a GLOW Movie in a discussion with the Playlist's Fourth Wall Podcast (From Sorta Post-Wrestling):

I certainly think a [GLOW] movie could tie everything up. Our creators, Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch, are incredible writers. And they’re so devoted to these characters that they created. I think a movie would be a great way to wrap it up.

I’m a little pessimistic about it actually happening just in light of everything that’s gone on this year and how difficult it is to get anything back into production with COVID, and I’m also part of the ‘Community’ cast, who’s been trying to get a movie going for six years, so what I’m saying is don’t hold your breath because if it does happen, it might take a minute.”

Without spoiling too much, the show ended on a cliffhanger so it would really suck if the last episode of GLOW was the series finale.

I agree with Alison Brie on this one, I think a movie would've been a great way to give those characters a satisfying conclusion.

The question is guys, Do you?

WWE Has No Plans For TLC 2020?

You're probably reading this news story like, "in other news, water is wet and the colour of blood is red".

From Dave Meltzer on the Wrestling Observer Radio (from Wrestling Inc), he stated that "there was nothing decisive" regarding the 11th Tables, Ladders And Chairs PPV match card.

On Meltzer's Daily Update, the person that was supposed to face Drew McIntyre for the WWE title at TLC was Braun Strowman.

Despite the storyline suspension that made Braun Strowman look like a God damn idiot (click here to learn a bit more) and the triple threat number one contenders match for the WWE title this Monday Night, Strowman is still reportedly in the title hunt.

Strowman's reported knee injury also plays a factor in all of this.

Moving on to the blue brand, it looks like Kevin Owens is going to face Roman Reigns for the blue title at TLC.

Now. On that same Daily Update, the Universal title bout between Roman Reigns and Daniel Bryan is eyeing towards a later date even though it looked like the match was going to take place at TLC.

Will see what happens within the next few weeks.

Who Booked The Undertaker Farewell Segment?

The answer is Vinnie Mac himself at least according to PWInsider and Mikey Johnson. Triple H “likely had some input” into this disappointing of a segment.

Veda Scott On Moving Into The Commentary Booth.

from Riptide Wrestling

Frank Mandolini of The Last Minute Wrestling Podcast, spoke with Veda Scott and during the discussion, she noted on moving into commentary and whether it'll be her permanent position (from Last Minute Wrestling Podcast's press release):

"I think I can do both, however I recognize the value of committing yourself to one thing, particularly if you're looking at a higher level like in AEW or WWE or wherever.

Sometimes being versatile is great and having a background is great but also spreading yourself too thin makes it impossible to be good at one thing and many times being ok at many things.

For me I love wrestling in the ring, that's why I got into wrestling, but overtime I've grown to love the broadcasting side of things, some behind the scenes side of things more than I thought I would and overtime I think it evolved [...] I feel myself moving towards that direction more so than in the ring.

Part of it is just logistically like you can't physically wrestle forever but I enjoyed doing commentating and broadcasting at times even more than wrestling.

I just sort of...I think that I'm good at it but also I enjoy being a part of the storytelling part of pro-wrestling and when you do the commentary that's all you do, it's trying to tell the story."

Keep in mind, she hasn't noted anything regarding leaving the in-ring side of the industry.

Update: Veda clarified what she said on the Twitta.

I've said on an AEW review 3 months back that she was really good and part of the reason why was her storytelling.

Honestly, I want her to replace Jim Ross.

You can check out the rest of the interview below

WWE Wrestlemania 26 | A Coherent Review.

I've teased a mystery review on my Facebook page (which you can click here to follow us) and that mystery has now been unveiled. It's Wrestlemania 26. This review was delayed and was supposed to be up last Monday but at least is now up. Also, The first draft of this review was 7 pages long so strap in. By far, the longest review on this very website.  I thought it would be fitting to review a Wrestlemania from a decade back and how do I feel about it? It was a show that if you watched it, you're most likely going to have a good time. It was a mix of great things but terrible things at the same time as most shows.  The 26th edition of Wrestlemania took place in the University of Phoenix Stadium in the Phoenix suburb of Glendale, Arizona on March 28th, 2010.  The commentators were Micheal Cole, Jerry Lawler and Matt Striker. Honestly, Striker was pretty good and a far better colour commentator than Lawler was on this show (even today, Lawler is still bleh on commen...

WrestleFest DXB's Fahrenheit 971 | A Coherent W.

Being a fan of pro wrestling (or any other medium of entertainment) does have its pros and cons when engaging with the industry as a whole.  On one hand, you've witnessed an Eddie Kingston promo that'll make you tear up more than the opening scene of Up.  On the other hand, going to the wrestling subreddit will definitely have you questioning humanity as a whole and the fact that living in an area where a wrestling presence pretty much doesn't exist like a Vince Russo-written storyline that is, you know, GOOD!?  Luckily, the latter retracted my con as a fan because I'm talking about Wrestlefest DXB and their latest joint, "971 Fahrenheit".  Martin Bushby of now Post Wrestling Alumni brought the event to my attention because like a wrestler on an episode of RAW I get distracted all the time.  So, I decided to take a short journey to a taxi then a bus then a train then a 30-minute walk to the show itself and I know I'm going to sound biased as f**k but I l...

NXT Takeover: 30 | A Coherent Review.

NXT Takeovers have delivered greatly throughout the "30 years" of Takeover shows.  This one, in my opinion, wasn't it. For a Takeover program, this was disappointing.  All of the Takeovers are A's or B's and Takeover 30 was a C at best.  At least, I like the stage production set.  pictures via WWE.com PRESHOW: Breezango vs Legado De La Fantasma vs Oney Lorcan And Danny Burch. Winner Faces Imperium For The NXT Tag Team Championship.  It was a fine match. Joaquin Wilde's ring gear was really cool even though it took a bit out of the seriousness from the Legado De La Fantasma stable. I'm just nitpicking though.  Breezango actually won the match and will go on to face Imperium for the tag belts.  MAIN SHOW: Finn Balor vs Timothy Thatcher.  Timothy Thatcher started off this match with a series of punches which he then later transitioned into various submission moves.  Pretty much, Finn has no choice but to adapt to...
