The Coherent Wrestling Wednesdays: We Got the First Official Match At Takeover: In Your House, Jake Roberts And Arn Anderson. Coach To Coach Confrontation.

WWE Photo

Hopefully, I can be consistent with this series because I am back to recap NXT and AEW Dynamite in the coherent wrestling Wednesdays.

AEW's go-home show for Double Or Nothing was kinda mediocre while NXT was a decent show that had a few issues.

If you were curious on my predictions regarding Double Or Nothing this coming Saturday then click here to check it out and scroll down. However, it is a bit dated given that I posted the article yesterday.

NXT

Highlights (at least in my opinion because wrestling is subjective).

We Got the First Official Match At Takeover: In Your House.

After Kross had a squash match once again, out came the psycho killer himself, Tomato Ciampa and he put over the specimen that is Karrion Kross and challenged him to a match between himself and Kross because "that is special", according to Ciampa.

A very good opening segment. It was short and to the point. Kross is someone to be watched out for and I'm sure most of you guys agree.

El Hijo Del Fantasma vs Akira Tozawa. NXT Cruiserweight Championship Tournament.

WWE Photo

A fun, entertaining showcase of both Tozawa and Fantasma. Akira nailed a Senton to El Hijo on the barricade from the ring apron which looked cool.

Also, something that looked cool was El Hijo's signature suicide dive. The match concluded with El Hijo hitting the phantom driver on Akira to advance in the tournament. The masked men are at it again and they failed to capture yet another wrestler, this time it was Akira Tozawa.

Tozawa was saved thanks to El Hijo immediately jumping into the action and the masked men quickly ran to the van (that surprisingly rhymed). Hmmmmm? Is the luchador behind all this?

Some Other Things That Happened.

Here's Dexter Lumis hitting a leg drop because why not?

Timothy Thatcher Challenges To Matt Riddle To A "Knockout Or Tap Out" Match - Matt Riddle accepted the challenge later in the evening but his request is a steel cage match. Honestly, I'm looking forward to how this match unfolds.

Keith Lee Saves His Girlfriend Mia Yim From A Beatdown - Yim won her match against Santana Garrett to which Candice LeRae and Johnny Gargano tell Mia that she blew her opportunity against Charlotte Flair. That led to a further beatdown until her boyfriend, Keith Lee makes the save. Lee mentioned in a backstage interview that he'll put his title on the line against Gargano at In Your House. Huh? That was random.

Dexter Lumis vs Roderick Strong - This was okay. Strong won the match with a roll-up and then Lumis caught him and turned it into a headlock. The rest of UE in Bobby Fish and Adam Cole (Bay Bay) tried to save Strong but The Velveteen Dream took out Fish and Cole.

Oney Lorcan And Danny Burch vs Ever-Rise - A quick encounter. Lorcan and Burch win with a double team submission.

Drake Maverick vs Kushida. NXT Cruiserweight Championship Tournament - What's with this episode and roll-up pins because that's how Maverick won the match?

Bryon Saxton got an announcement from NXT GM William Regal that because Jake Atlas, Drake Maverick and Kushida have the same win/loss record in group A, three of those guys will face each other with the winner advancing in the tournament next week. Should be interesting.

Rhea Ripley vs Io Shirai - During the match, Charlotte Flair was watching this match near the ring and Io delivered a hurricanrana to Ripley on Charlotte. You know what happens next, the person that was attacked got involved leading to a triple threat match down the road.

I'm not a fan of a heel champion beating up both competitors because it makes the champion look stupid by facing both wrestlers instead but in this scenario, it makes sense. The heel champion was attacked and the champion had to react via a post-match beatdown.

AEW

Highlights (we get it, it's subjective).

Jake Roberts And Arn Anderson. Coach To Coach Confrontation.

Roberts in a dialogue, says that dreams and nightmares aren't real but Lance Archer is and calls Cody out for sacrificing his own brother but Cody can't do that this Sunday at Double Or Nothing because Lance Archer is a mean son of a gun.

Arn Anderson asked him whether Roberts will put a snake on the man that will present the championship, Iron Mike Tyson.

Anderson went on to say that Cody is more than just Dusty Rhodes' son, Dustin Rhodes' brother. Cody is the leader of AEW and his win will recognize it.

Roberts didn't like the fact that Arn wanted to spinebuster him so they tried to have a fight but a bunch of referees successfully separated those two guys.

Who would've thought that two old men passed their prime was the best part about this episode?

That Gif.

Says it all. It's not a match or a segment but this is worthy of being called a highlight because that was hilarious. Oh, and the match between Orange Cassidy and Rey Fenix was enjoyable.

Some Other Things That Happened.

Jon Moxley vs 10 From The Dark Order - Before this match took place, Brodie Lee cut a WWE like promo from the mid-2010s and that is not a compliment, my friends. It was boring and really dragged on. However, at least the match was short. Moxley won with the underhook DDT.

After that, Jon Moxley brought two chairs and hooked one of the chairs on 10's arm and Moxley tells Lee to bring his title back or he's going to break Brodie Lee's servant's arm.

Lee via titantron basically said that he doesn't give a crap about him so Moxley immediately did not hesitate to break 10's arm.

Like I said in my Late Coherent Wrestling Wednesdays post yesterday (which you can click here to read the whole thing), I'm interested in this from a wrestling standpoint but this feud is a no for me. It's just simply not interesting.

MJF vs Marko Stunt - Hey, Marko Stunt actually won a match (I'm kidding, that didn't happen obviously). MJF defeats Stunt with an armbar.

Kris Statlander And Hikaru Shida vs Nyla Rose And Britt Baker - The challenger for the women's title was pinned by the champion herself which was a piss poor booking decision but at least, Hikaru put Nyla Rose through a table with a superplex.

The Debut Of Shawn Spears News - Spears wanted to inform the fans that he's not only glad that Dustin Rhodes is retired but Spears is bothered by the fact that he doesn't have a match at Double Or Nothing. Cool.

Matt Hardy vs Sammy Guevara - Hardy delivered a sick looking twist of fate to win this match.

Hardy was about to hit Sammy Guevara with a chair however, Jericho told Hardy in the banks field arena that he'll destroy Kenny Omega just like how he destroyed Vanguard one.

The Young Bucks, Hangman Page and Matt Hardy came to the rescue and chaos ensued. A typical way to end a pro wrestling episode and I'm excited to see this 10 man bout. Cannot wait.

The question is, what are some of the highlights on both episodes in your opinion? Let me know in the comments below and follow me on Twitter @omartheplayaguy. Anyways, stay safe smarks.

My Coherent Wrestling Wednesdays: A Broserweight Road Trip To Portland, Britt Baker Addresses Her Attack On Yuka Sakazaki Last Week.

While this was a typical night for AEW, NXT, however, had a go-home show to deliver just days before the next anticipated Takeover show in Portland, Oregon.  But, NXT's final show before the second Takeover of 2020 didn't bring it, unfortunately, in terms of quality as the 20th episode of AEW Dynamite was the better show this week even though AEW Dynamite is a hit or miss program.  NXT    Highlights.  Roderick Strong vs Bronson Reed. Before the match, a pissed off Roderick Strong demanded an apology from the Velveteen Dream given that Dream put his wife and child's face on his trucks.  By the way, Bronson Reed's theme song is killer and so is this match. A slow, technical, old-school type of match that wouldn't fit the big man on paper but the execution was a different story.  The lights turned purple and Reed hits the suicide dive but he missed a Samoan splash that led to a knee strike from Strong and wins the match.  Then,...

Top 3 BEST Distraction Finishes EVER!

Distraction endings to a wrestling match in WWE depend on one another if you think about it. It's like the peanut butter and jelly or the chicken and the basmati biryani rice or Dan Lambert and sexism.  "Why top 3", you may ask? Because one, I'm different and two, well, I'm different, so be gone to the mofos that think it's shorter than Brock Lesnar's bout with Kofi Kingston.  (WARNING: This piece is mostly sarcasm).  Daniel Bryan vs Sheamus. Wrestlemania 28.  I know this made your eyebrows raise as high as Rocky Maivia but think about this. The kiss from AJ Lee that led to a brogue kick from Sheamus, has in some way, led to the general audience seeing how Daniel Bryan should be WAY higher in the overall arc than where he was at that time.  Also, this was also the year where Bryan showed off his comedic chops with his "NO" catchphrase and his tag team run with the big red conservative, Kane.  If anything, this distraction finish was a great chara...

Roman Reigns Relinquishes The Universal Title Because He Has Leukemia.

I have a sad and unfortunate news to break. Two hours ago on RAW, Roman cut a great promo pretty much stating that he's been living with leukemia for over 11 years and the disease's return forced him to give up the universal championship. The segment ended with both shield members Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins gave a group hug to Roman and did the triple shield fist pump. Ever since that, fellow WWE superstars reacted to the news on Twitter and here are the tweets so far. An amazing human being, an incredible performer & a man I’m proud to be friends with. My thoughts & prayers are with you & your family. Get well soon, champ! #ThankYouRoman https://t.co/jL1Q5dVvzs — #WOKEN, yet #BROKEN, Matt Hardy (@MATTHARDYBRAND) October 23, 2018 My heart right now ....
