Shawn Micheals vs Ric Flair Wrestlemania 24 And Why I Love This Match.

With Fastlane 2019 over and done with (click here to read my review for Fastlane 2019) and Wrestlemania 35 right around the corner, I wanna talk about my all-time favourite professional wrestling match and that is Shawn Michaels vs Ric Flair at Wrestlemania 24.

Before I get to talk about the match itself, I first have to talk about the build for this match. Let’s rewind the clock back to 2007. Ric Flair came back to RAW on November 26th from Smackdown! (remember when he was on Smackdown because I sure didn't) after a 3-month hiatus due to him entering into the political game in his home state of North Carolina, starting his own marketing company and pursued opportunities for investment.

In that segment, Ric Flair announced to the world that he will never retire because he loves this business so much. Out came Vince McMahon and the chairman of the board said that if Flair doesn't win a match then his career is over basically stating that Ric Flair is dead weight and doesn't draw in WWE anymore. Flair then went on to win many "career ending" matches including his match with MVP at the Royal Rumble PPV in 2008 (which was an awful match by the way) which led to Flair challenging Shawn Micheals to a match at Wrestlemania 24 on the February 25th 2008 episode of Monday Night RAW.

Shawn Michaels at first didn’t want to do this because he doesn’t wanna be known as somebody that ended his best friend’s career. Shawn then accepted the offer because Ric Flair told him that all of the compliments Ric Flair got from Shawn would mean nothing if he challenges Flair.

The tension between those two men increased as the weeks go by. A great example of that would be when Ric Flair faced Vince McMahon in a street fight on the March 17th episode of RAW (which it was a decent match surprisingly). In it, Vince McMahon was this close on winning this match until Shawn Michaels showed up and pulled the referee to the outside.

Ric Flair ended up winning the match but that bothered him not because he pinned the chairman of WWE but rather it was because Shawn Michaels interfered in the match. Making him feel like he can’t beat an opponent all by himself. That led to Ric putting his frustrations onto Shawn Michaels in a segment on RAW 6 days before Wrestlemania 24.

Boy, that was a long summary. Now, we get to the match itself and as the celebrities would say on MTV cribs “this is where the magic happens” (okay that sentence sounded so weird). Both of those men ABSOLUTELY beat the crap out of each other and Shawn Michaels’ moonsaults still were tough to watch but he did make Ric Flair look like he could still wrestle for another 5 years or so (which that’s kind of what he did after leaving WWE as an in-ring performer).

However, the closing moments was more than just something else to me. Shawn Michaels delivered Ric Flair the second Superkick and when he’s trying to prepare for the third one, you could see and imagine the regret look on his face. Ric Flair with tears in his eyes, wanted Shawn Michaels to bring it as The Rock would say. Shawn then said……

That right there as an eight-year-old boy thought that this match was fantastic and after watching it many times after made me think that this match is my all time favourite professional wrestling match.

My words wouldn’t do justice. Go out to your living room or a comfortable area of your house with a nice cold drink of your choice and WATCH THIS MATCH. If you saw it once years ago then see it again, again, again, again.

WWE Smackdown Live 10/7/18 | My Coherent Review.

Smackdown live was a bad show that did nothing as a wrestling fan to gain any excitement for extreme rules. Why you ask? Well i'm gonna give you what's good. No scratch that, i'm gonna give you what's ok and what's bad. Here we go. WHAT'S OK The opening segment and the brawl after that The opening segment was meh. And the brawl after that was fine. Didn't make me go "OHHHHHHHHHHH" or anything like along those lines. That brawl leads to a TEN MAN TAG TEAM match (Ummmmmm no shit omar). I will say this, the segment kinda teased the fact that maybe kane will turn on his best friend? I don't know. Should be interesting.  Andrade "cien" almas vs Sin cara The match was surprisingly decent. At one point andrade delivered a devastating stomp to sin cara on the ring apron. Andrade wins with a running knee to sin cara on the middle rope. Hoping andrade can move on to bigger and better things.  WHAT'S BAD ...

The Obsession With Ratings. Warranted Or Not?

(Just a bit of a heads-up, this article contains a lot of the word "ratings").  Rating. Rating. Rating. It is a word that you see or hear many times throughout your wrestling fandom but why is that?  Well, it's interesting to see how your weekly consumption does by the numbers every week.  However, that conversation can turn the other way.  The toxic, " logic-filled" , gatekeeping way that is (you see why I muted the word "rating" on Twitter?).  Fans have been talking about TV ratings for years but that discussion has skyrocketed once AEW Dynamite and NXT airs on the same night every week ya know because wrestling fans am I right?  Before I answer the question of whether the obsession with TV ratings is warranted or not, I'll first have to briefly describe the Nielsen rating (which is an American TV rating system. No sh*t, Omar).  A Summary Of The History Of The Nielsen Ratings.  The Nielsen rating system was introduced...

Should Dave Meltzer Get Rid Of His Rating System?

So a few weeks ago, good old Dave Meltzer of the wrestling observer newsletter gave the Kazuchika Okada vs Kenny omega match at dominion 2018 a 7-star rating. According to the interent wrestling database , this match is by far his HIGHEST match rating ever (i don't blame him because the match was amazing). So statistically, this is his favourite match of all time . Now, why I'm writing this now?  Well, his best match ratings have been a consistent 5 stars since 1983 with the exception of all the Omega vs Okada matches and the Mitsuharu Misawa vs Toshiaki Kawada match at AJPW's Budokan hall show in June of 1994.  There are fans that take his match ratings as an offence somehow like "Why he rates X match better than Y match?" or thinks that he "hates" WWE which is ridiculous considering that he gave three WWE matches a 5 star ratings just this past year. One was the ladder match to crown the first ever NXT North American champion, the Johnny Garga...
