Leyla Hirsh Signed With AEW All The Way Back In October?

Leyla Hirsh is an extraordinary talent that I assumed was signed recently based on the official announcement from the man with a great Bernie Sanders impression, Tony Khan.

However, in a virtual signing for High Spots Wrestling Network, Hirsh revealed that she was signed with the elite brand all the way back in October (shout out to Andrew Thompson of Post Wrestling for the quotes):

"I don’t even know if I’m allowed to say any of this but, my first week on Wednesday night, I faced [Hikaru] Shida [on AEW Dark] and that was great and then there was an incident with — there was a match that was supposed to happen with the girls and it didn’t because there was an injury and then they called me and they were like, ‘Leyla, we need you to wrestle Serena Deeb.’ So me and her literally only had 20 minutes to put the match together.

Went out there, did it and then when I got backstage, Kenny Omega put his arm around me and said to me, ‘I hope I’m not putting too much pressure on you’ but he was like, ‘What’s your availability?

We would like for you to work here’ and then Christopher Daniels pulled me aside and gave me the contract right there and then.

So surreal but my first week there, I ended up getting the contract. So, it was wild.

I don’t know [why it took AEW this long to announce it]. Just timing. Yeah, just certain things but it happens, so, grateful for it."

Leyla has a point at the end there. Why did AEW take 5 long months to announce the signing?

I have no idea but I'm glad she has signed with a major wrestling company like all elite wrestling.

RAW And Smackdown Moving Out Of The Tropicana Field!?

If you've read last week's article of this very series, then you'll know that WWE is looking for arenas to host the "award-winning" Thunderdome since the Tampa Bay Rays are hosting a baseball game on the 9th of April.

And as of a few days back, Jon Alba took to Twitter to update the story on WWE moving RAW and Smackdown out of Tropicana Field:

I mean, I couldn't tell the difference between the time they were on the Amway Centre and Tropicana field so……..

Yet Another Update Regarding NXT Moving To Tuesdays.

We have heard this story of NXT moving to Tuesday nights going back to around Septemberish.

Whether the news is getting tiresome or not is a different question but PWInsider and Mikey Johnson has his usual scoop regarding this story, stating:

"Several WWE sources confirmed today that the first WWE NXT episode coming out of Wrestlemania 37 weekend is currently scheduled to be held and broadcast on Tuesday 4/13.

The move would separate NXT and AEW, allowing each series to stand on their own accord with viewers.  NXT shifting to Tuesday would also allow for heavy promotion from the previous evening's episode of Monday Night Raw."

It looks like my weekly recap for NXT and AEW Dynamite, The Coherent Wrestling Wednesdays is coming to an end and I'll have an announcement on my Facebook page once WWE confirms the move (follow the Facebook page here).

WWE Filed A Trademark "Jessi Kamea".

A piece of news that isn't a shocker to all of you, WWE has filed a trademark of "Jessi Kamea" on March 15th.

The description of the trademark reads (from Wrestling Inc):

“G & S: Entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibitions and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer rendered live and through broadcast media including television and radio, and via the internet or commercial online service; providing wrestling news and information via a global computer network; providing information in the fields of sports and entertainment via an online community portal; providing a website in the field of sports entertainment information; fan club services, namely, organizing sporting events in the field of wrestling for wrestling fan club members; organizing social entertainment events for entertainment purposes for wrestling fan club members; providing online newsletters in the fields of sports entertainment; online journals, namely blogs, in the field of sports entertainment.”

Quick Thoughts On Smackdown.

I haven't written a review for the latest episode of Smackdown because….. life.

Since the news was a bit slow this past week, I decided to briefly talk about Smackdown and the episode was fine.

I will say, It was slightly better than the few weeks of disappointment.

Nia Jax is my least favourite wrestler and yet, she has incredible chemistry with two people. Ronda Rousey and Sasha Banks.

That should honestly tell you how good Rousey and Banks are as performers because as y'all know, a good Jax match is a rarity.

What do you think about the news I just reported and follow me on the tweets @omartheplayaguy? Anyways, stay safe smarks.

The 5 News Week: An Interview With ROH's Eli Isom, Fans Singing Petitions For Charlotte Flair Not Winning Titles Anymore!?

Hello, my fellow wrestling fans and welcome to the 5 news week. The post where I report 5 major or minor news of the week that I don't have time to do it separately. Without further ado, here are the 5 news week. An Interview With ROH's Eli Isom.  Yes. After several and several and several of The 5 News Week articles that I've been putting out since late 2018, I finally got an interview for you guys.  The person in question is Ring Of Honour's Eli Isom. Since graduating from the ROH Dojo, Isom has worked and learned from the absolute best in the industry:  "I’m lucky that I got a chance to train from scratch with ROH, without that kind of training who knows where I’d be right now." So, without further ado, here is the conversation I had with Eli.  Omar: My first question is, how would you describe the persona of "Eli Isom" to resident WWE shills like myself? Eli Isom: For me, my wrestling persona isn’t too far off from who I real...

WWE Wrestlemania 26 | A Coherent Review.

I've teased a mystery review on my Facebook page (which you can click here to follow us) and that mystery has now been unveiled. It's Wrestlemania 26. This review was delayed and was supposed to be up last Monday but at least is now up. Also, The first draft of this review was 7 pages long so strap in. By far, the longest review on this very website.  I thought it would be fitting to review a Wrestlemania from a decade back and how do I feel about it? It was a show that if you watched it, you're most likely going to have a good time. It was a mix of great things but terrible things at the same time as most shows.  The 26th edition of Wrestlemania took place in the University of Phoenix Stadium in the Phoenix suburb of Glendale, Arizona on March 28th, 2010.  The commentators were Micheal Cole, Jerry Lawler and Matt Striker. Honestly, Striker was pretty good and a far better colour commentator than Lawler was on this show (even today, Lawler is still bleh on commen...

Wrestling With Whiteness | A Documentary Sorely Needed.

Here's the thing. My 2 viewers will know that I've been a wrestling fan for 15 plus years but what they do not know is that I've been a Somali (aka a Black Muslim person) my entire life so talking about this documentary is going to be a little more personal, to say the least.  And look, I know this is the part where I insert my usual wit and fart jokes but you're not gonna see less of that because this is a serious topic (and you know it's serious when I mentioned my ethnicity) about representation and the shared struggle across every single black performer featured in this documentary.  From the press release, Wrestling With Whiteness "focuses on sharing the stories of Black folx and their experience in the wrestling community. Using a combination of interviews with Black wrestlers and Black content creators, Wrestling With Whiteness uncovers the unique experiences of Black people in the industry and the rise of representation for performers and fans around th...
