Top 7 Best TV Wrestling Matches Of 2020.

2020 was to quote the 5 News Week Look Back article, "eventful, awful, wild and surprisingly quick."

That doesn't mean there weren't some good wrestling to watch on television so here it is.

My and I repeat MY top 5 best TV matches of 2020.

#7 Cody Rhodes vs Darby Allin. AEW TNT Championship Semi-Finals Bout.

This list includes two matches that starred two people with fantastic chemistry.

One of them is this gem of an encounter between Cody Rhodes and Darby Allin.

All elite wrestling has introduced a brand new championship for the mid-card and was contested via a good old fashioned tournament.

The matches were fine but one of them stood out amongst the rest.

That, of course, being the Cody Rhodes vs Darby Allin bout at the tournament's semi-finals.

Allin actually pulled off a crossrhodes that looked so good that I don't mind him adding it to his arsenal.

The finish was executed a bit poorly which is why it is lower on the list. However, what happened before, was a fun contest.

#6 Asuka vs Charlotte Flair For The RAW Women's Championship. June 22nd Episode of Monday Night RAW.

(and yes, this is the last match in the count down in which it includes two people with excellent chemistry).

Do you know what is the most satisfying part of this match? When Charlotte tapped out to the Asuka lock.

I don't think I've seen the queen tap out before. That's how protected she was.

Monday Night RAW in 2020 was decent until the fall of that year happened.

So, it's really nice for me to actually compliment the red brand for the first time in what it feels like an eternity.

#5 Hikaru Shida vs Britt Baker. April 8th Episode Of AEW Dynamite.

Everybody and their mama know that AEW's women's division isn't great compared to WWE or Impact Wrestling's Knockouts division.

But, on the April 8th episode of Dynamite, the company somehow gave me a fantastic women's match between Britt Baker and Hikaru Shida that should've been for the women's title on this year's Double Or Nothing PPV.

This contest proved one obvious thing. Hikaru Shida is one HELL of a performer. She's so good that it's honestly scary.

Oh, and Britt Baker is great too.

If you're dreaming of a great, engaging AEW women's division (which is pretty much all of you) then give this match a watch.

#4 Best Friends vs Santana And Ortiz In  Park Lot Brawl. September 16th episode of AEW Dynamite.

To all the hardcore match fanatics that haven’t seen this bout, I gotta ask, where have you been?

Because this was one hell of a ride.

AEW's greatest strength is by far, their tag team division and their utilization of said tag team division.

As a WWE shill, I especially appreciated how the division has storylines that don't involve the tag team championship and this feud was an example of that.

It has the element of charm added to it with Trent's mom at the end which was the salt that brings all the flavours together.

#3 Walter vs Ilja Dragunov For The WWE UK Championship. Oct 29th Episode Of NXT UK.

I, like most people, do not watch NXT UK on a weekly basis but I've heard nothing but fantastic things about this WWE UK championship bout between Walter and Ilja Dragunov.

And my f'ing goodness, I'm glad I took the time to watch this.

Nowadays, Whenever I think of the word "hard-hitting", this match comes to mind.

The reason being is that it was essentially a freaking fight.

I don't know how both men are okay coming out of that match but kudos to them for delivering a match that is more brutal than most WWE main roster brawl segments.

#2 Io Shirai vs Sasha Banks. NXT Great American Bash.

Io Shirai vs Sasha Banks is a dream match in my opinion and it's nice to see that the match itself lived up to my expectations which were high in case you were wondering.

That cameo from Asuka that led to a green mist from her on to Sasha Banks was unexpected yet it made a whole lotta sense given that they were feuding at that time.

This was yet another great layer of Sasha Banks and Bayley's fantastic run throughout late spring and all summer.

#1 Daniel Bryan vs AJ Styles. Intercontinental Championship Tournament Finals On The June 12th Episode Of Smackdown.

And the award of the best intercontinental championship match in quite some time goes to…….

The powers that be made the right call to crown a new champion via a tournament and what a way to end it all.

Two of the greatest wrestlers of the generation battled out for the title that has been used greatly, for the most part, this year (which is odd for me to say this because I'm not a fan of heel Sami Zayn).

It was a rare situation for me to be in as a fan where I didn't mind either person walking out of the place as a champion so it gave the match an unpredictable spark to it.

Smackdown has been doing pretty well in the Nielsen ratings as of late and I'm happy to see a good program with matches like these, succeed on that level.

Thank you so much for reading this and if you like it, please share it around and let me know what are some of your favourite wrestling TV matches of 2020. Anyways, stay safe smarks and have a happy new year.

The 5 News Week: An Interview With ROH's Eli Isom, Fans Singing Petitions For Charlotte Flair Not Winning Titles Anymore!?

Hello, my fellow wrestling fans and welcome to the 5 news week. The post where I report 5 major or minor news of the week that I don't have time to do it separately. Without further ado, here are the 5 news week. An Interview With ROH's Eli Isom.  Yes. After several and several and several of The 5 News Week articles that I've been putting out since late 2018, I finally got an interview for you guys.  The person in question is Ring Of Honour's Eli Isom. Since graduating from the ROH Dojo, Isom has worked and learned from the absolute best in the industry:  "I’m lucky that I got a chance to train from scratch with ROH, without that kind of training who knows where I’d be right now." So, without further ado, here is the conversation I had with Eli.  Omar: My first question is, how would you describe the persona of "Eli Isom" to resident WWE shills like myself? Eli Isom: For me, my wrestling persona isn’t too far off from who I real...

The 5 News Week Look Back At Each Individual Highlight Of Zack Ryder, Lio Rush as Cruiserweight Championship, The Writer Behind The Otis And Mandy Rose Story.

April 15th, 2020 is a memorable day for me. It is definitely the saddest and noteworthy day of not only mine and the fans' lives but as well as the performers and staff who were affected by this. I am of course referring to the day that WWE released dozens of talented, hard-working people.  For those who are new, I usually report on the 5 major or minor news of the week and that was the original plan.  However, since this week is probably going to be known in the future for the releases, I want to instead document 5 of the performers and staff's individual highlights in their tenure with WWE.  Understand that without the hardworking wrestlers, producers, ring crew, writers and the rest of the staff doing what they do best, there wouldn't be a Playard Wrestling Post. Without further ado, Ladies and gentlemen, this is The 5 News Week Look Back.  How Zack Ryder's Popularity In 2011 Played A Role In WWE's YouTube Strategy Today.  It's hard to believe ...

Priscilla Kelly Used A Tampon In A Wrestling Match: Right Or Wrong?

If you have been away from social media for the past day or so, a wrestler by the name of Priscilla Kelly (who by the way, recently competed in the second Mae Young Classic tournament) competed in a match in which she pulled out her tampon and put it on her rival's mouth. That struck the wrestling world on Twitter with differences of opinions. She did respond to this on Twitter and here's what she had to say: Hey guys. Ya know, it's all fake. 21+ show with a bar. Can't take life so serious all the time. Call me what you will... 🌹 — The Priscilla Kelly (@priscillakelly_) January 5, 2019 What do I think of this? I don't understand why this became as viral as it is considering that we've seen hardcore, brutal, disgusting stuff in a wrestling match before. However, it did get an "ugh" reaction out of me.  Was it right or wrong that she did this? My answer is none considering that wrestling is subjective and there's no such thing ...
