A surprisingly noteworthy episode of Smackdown and that is not the norm for the blue brand.
The question is, was it good? Nah. This is a show that only delivers 3 to 6 out of 10s and this week, it was a 6.
At least it wasn't a train wreck like Super showdown which you can click here to read my whole thoughts on the show.
Goldberg Starts Off Smackdown As The Universal Champion.
The intro for this week's show was sacrificed by a 54-year-old Goldberg who by the way, is one of WWE's top champions (I can't believe I actually said that in two thousand and twenty). Goldberg said that there's always who's next after he was booed outta the building.
That next is Roman Reigns who grabbed the mic and told Goldberg that he's next. First off, thank God that Reigns moved on from that awful feud.
Secondly, Boston doesn't like Goldberg which is understandable given that awful ending on Thursday. This was a good segment. It was quick, to the point and it didn't play much to their weakness which is their mic skills.
While yes, that match doesn't need the title but I've said this many times, I would be lying if I'm not at least interested in this match.
Bayley vs Naomi.
Before this match, Bayley in a promo introduced the returning Sasha Banks in Banks hometown.
That match was cut short due to Banks stomping on Naomi but out came Lacey Evans to the resume and you know what that means?
A tag team match, playa. The babyface team won this match with a sunset flip from Naomi to Bayley. 50/50 booking but in a tag team setting.
Kofi Kingston vs Robert Roode.
During this match, Roode faked a steel steps attack on the outside, the referee saw this and then, made the conclusion to kick Big E out even though the big man didn't do it.
Also, Mandy Rose was watching this match via a monitor backstage. Roode hits the full Nelson slam and Kofi Kingston survived that one.
Kofi reversed the Glorious DDT and turned it into the SOS but Dolph pulled Roode's leg without the ref's witness. Robert quickly pinned Kofi via a roll-up and won this match. I like this, a solid bout.
Meanwhile, Sonya Deville watched this match with Rose backstage saying "your man must be happy".
Speaking of this whole love triangle, Tucker Knight told Otis to maybe move on from this but the WWE universe will always have his back. Yo, F Dolph Ziggler for that (if you can't tell, I'm playing with the story).
Braun Strowman vs Shinsuke Nakamura At The Elimination Chamber PPV Contract Signing.
Sami Zayn wanted to settle this contract signing like professionals and Strowman replied by throwing the chair off of the ring. Braun Strowman after Zayn was to quote Strowman, "bitching and moaning" and says that he'll fight the 3 of them if he wants to.
Zayn replied by using Braun's words and turned that IC title match into a 3 on 1 handicap match to which they assaulted Braun Strowman and put the big man through a table.
That will not stop Strowman from retaining the title at Elimination Chamber which is next week in case you haven't heard already. A meh segment.
Daniel Bryan vs Curtis Axel.
When Micheal Cole accidentally called Drew Gulak, "Drew Axel", Gulak after he answered Cole's question, called him "Tom Phillips" which was funny. Curtiss Axel ain't winning this match (No sh*t, Omar). Bryan wins with the rebel lock.
The Miz And John Morrison Celebrate Their Tag Team Championship Victory.
The Miz says that they may hear "you suck" chants but they only hear the sound of victory.
Greg Hamilton then announced that there will be a tag team Elimination Chamber match between The champs, The New Day, Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler, Heavy Machinery, Lucha House Party and The Usos.
That segment led to a match which was fine. The Usos pins the championship which is the right move in this instance. Don't know why The Lucha House Party got a championship match at Elimination Chamber but it is what it is.
*Sings Along With The Rhythm Of His Theme Song* John Cena Returrrrrns. John Cena Returrrrrns.
The former 16-time world champion excited to be in his home state in Massachusetts and asks why is he here? Well, it's Wrestlemania season and he wants to talk about that.
He then praised the WWE universe for being passionate about the future of WWE as well as Cena himself. His announcement is that he's going to miss this year's Wrestlemania because he's confident in the future of WWE.
While Cena was about to leave the ring, the lights were turned off for a bit and that led to The Fiend showing up to point at the Wrestlemania sign for a match against the leader of Cenation. John accepts the challenge.
Even if The Fiend beats John Cena, it wouldn't recover from the L he took two days ago which before this, I thought that Wyatt is slowly getting his Grove back. The build should be good though going into Wrestlemania.
So, to recap for all of you slow mofos.
Like: Kofi Kingston vs Robert Roode, the opening segment.
Didn't like: The 50/50 booking from the women's championship side.
