My Coherent Wrestling Wednesdays: Cameron Grimes' Best Match So Far?, The Dark Order Emerges At Last.

Corpus Cristy, TX. A crowd this is notorious for having little to no reactions is as lively on the recent episode of AEW Dynamite as any Monday Night RAW audience reaction all year. I know it sounds like an oxymoron but I'm not lying.

Anywho, this is not only an AEW Dynamite review but as well as an NXT review so which show was better? NXT by far. Dynamite had some logic holes filled with meh matches for the most part. WWE's yellow brand was the exact opposite.

NXT

Highlights.

Adam Cole vs Finn Balor For The NXT Championship.

WWE Photo

"The Irishman's title reign lasted as long as the movie "The Irishman"" in Mauro we love and in Mauro we keep.

They weren't lying when they said that the match had limited commercial breaks. The bout started off slow, to be honest, but it picked up in the second half. Both guys took a series of kicks from both guys until Balor hits the Pele kick and when Balor layed down the mat, Cole immediately pinned him but Finn kicked out.

Speaking of kicks, Balor delivers a dropkick on Cole through the barricade followed immediately by a coup de grace but Adam reversed that into the last shot and Balor kicked out of that one.

As Finn was going to hit the 1916, the returning Johnny Gargano showed up and Cole strikes Balor with the second last shot to keep NXT's biggest prize in his possession. Great to see Gargano once again. The build of this feud is gonna be gud *Booker T's voice*.

Cameron Grimes vs Kushida.

WWE Photo

Holy crap, this was a fun match. Grimes did a quick sitout rock bottom of some sort to which Kushida countered that with a moonsault to Grimes on the outside. Kushida then delivered a sunset flip from the top rope.

Cameron ends this match with his double stomp finish on Kushida's chest. This match surprised me. Kudos to both guys.

Shayna Baszler vs Rhea Ripley for the NXT Women's Championship.

WWE Photo

Ripley throws Baszler with a superplex that landed hard on the mat. The horsewomen in Marina Shafir and Jessamyn Duke showed up and Rhea got rid of them for a while but Baszler immediately took that as an opportunity to hit Ripley on her elbow on the steel steps (yikes, that was brutal).

Ripley kicked Shayna which accidentally knocked out the ref in the process to which Baszler reversed Rhea's cannonball on the outside.

Baszler then hits the DDT to Ripley on the chair without the ref's knowledge and after the referee finally woke up, Rhea kicked out as Shayna was pinning her.

WWE Photo

Shayna Baszler applied the Kirifuda clutch and Ripley used the ref's shirt to get out of that manoeuvre leading to the Australian hitting the Riptide from the top rope and wins the championship after a year-long reign from the submission magician.

A good main event that subverted expectations. I know this a bit early but Shayna's definitely winning the women's Royal Rumble match but that's just me.

Some Other Things That Happened.

Damian Priest vs Killian Dain - Dain has targeted the ribs throughout the match with various of brutal moves like a splash, dropkick etc. But, Priest somehow prevails this encounter with the reckoning. Decent match.

Io Shirai vs Santana Garrett - Shirai wins here with the picture-perfect moonsault. I hope they utilized Santana Garrett to her fullest potential because she's a great talent honestly.

Pete Dunne vs Travis Banks - Will Banks get a second upset win like last week? The answer is actually ye……...no. Dunne wins with the bitter end. One week, Banks wins a match in an upset and the next week, he loses. I didn't get why that decision has been made.

AEW

Highlights.

"Le Champion" Chris Jericho vs Jungle Boy.

For a 10 minute match, it was some edge of your seat type of action. Jungle Boy hits the diamond DDT from the middle rope and Jericho survived that one. A Judas effect and the walls of Jericho later transitioning into the lion tamer and the time ran out but the match went on for some reason.

After Jungle Boy delivered the package pin, Jericho left and the match was over. Tony Schiavone and Chris Jericho had a funny back and forth to which Jericho mentioned Jon Moxley and how Jon should think about his decision to join the Inner Circle.

I had some problems with this match like how Jungle Boy got up from the Judas effect like it was a basic clothesline, how the match continued after the time limit but overall, I enjoyed this encounter.

The Young Bucks vs SCU In Frank Kazarian And Scorpio Sky For The AEW World Tag Team Championship.

A pretty good main event. After The Bucks loses this match, The Dark Order showed up to not recruitment them but rather to make a statement. I don't know about you guys but I feel like that’s how The Dark Order should be introduced to the masses with the video recruitment packages leading to an ending like this. Props to AEW for correcting their mistakes.

Some Other Things That Happened.

Kenny Omega And Hangman Page vs The Lucha Brothers - Fenix kicked Omega's head off with a quick roundhouse kick. Page accidentally clotheslined Omega which means that the brothers did a double team package piledriver and won the match.

After a disagreement between Omega and Page, Pac told the cameraman to follow him and Pac opened the room for Micheal Nakasawa. That disagreement was literally unnecessary but the Pac aspect of the segment was aight.

Awesome Kong vs Local Jobber - Awesome Kong won the match obviously and then, she cut the enhancement talent's piece of hair. I don't get the propose as to why Kong cuts a piece of somebody's hair. They might write the narrative where Kong get stronger as she sniffs a piece of hair? Who knows but AEW.

Britt Baker vs Kris Stadtlander. A Number One Contenders Match For The AEW Women's Championship  - Another "take it or leave it" type of match. Stadtlander wins with the package piledriver. Brandi Rhodes showed up basically saying to "join us" like Cultaholic's main slogan and Kris said no which led to Rhodes hitting her. Meh.

The Butcher And The Blade vs Cody Rhodes And Darby Allin - I find it really odd that Chris Jericho in an interview said that Darby Allin "reminds him a lot of Jeff Hardy" and then on commentary, Jim Ross called Allin a "strange enigma" which if you don't know, Hardy used to call himself the enigma without the strange part of course. Coincidence?

Anyways, this was a meh match. The babyface team wins with a springboard cutter from Cody.

My Coherent Wrestling Wednesdays: A Broserweight Road Trip To Portland, Britt Baker Addresses Her Attack On Yuka Sakazaki Last Week.

While this was a typical night for AEW, NXT, however, had a go-home show to deliver just days before the next anticipated Takeover show in Portland, Oregon.  But, NXT's final show before the second Takeover of 2020 didn't bring it, unfortunately, in terms of quality as the 20th episode of AEW Dynamite was the better show this week even though AEW Dynamite is a hit or miss program.  NXT    Highlights.  Roderick Strong vs Bronson Reed. Before the match, a pissed off Roderick Strong demanded an apology from the Velveteen Dream given that Dream put his wife and child's face on his trucks.  By the way, Bronson Reed's theme song is killer and so is this match. A slow, technical, old-school type of match that wouldn't fit the big man on paper but the execution was a different story.  The lights turned purple and Reed hits the suicide dive but he missed a Samoan splash that led to a knee strike from Strong and wins the match.  Then,...

NXT Takeover: 31 | A Coherent Review.

NXT Takeover: 31 was a step up from the disappointment that was Takeover: 30.  By the way, the set from the now called Capital Wrestling Centre is clean. The lighting was especially on point.  pictures via wwe.com Damian Priest vs Johnny Gargano For The North American Championship.  During the match, Gargano pulled Damian's arm that had the big man land on the outside floor.  That led to Gargano pushing Priest onto the steel steps. In other words, Johnny has been targeting Damian's arm throughout the match  (No f'ing sh*t, Omar).  Priest then delivered the Razor's edge to Gargano on the ring apron (rip Johnny's back).  After he reversed the one final beat from Gargano, Priest nailed the reckoning to retain the North American title.  Not the most mind-blowing opener of all time but it was a decent match.  Kushida vs *ugh* Velveteen Dream.  Velveteen Dream dressed as Dr Emmett Brown because GET IT? Kushida dresses as Marty McFly?  Kus...

A Brief Guide To Pro Wrestling Websites.

So. You just become a fan of pro wrestling and have dabbled into the fandom for a bit (it's a mess ain't it?) You've just followed some news sites' social media platforms but aren't sure whether the articles they put out are accurate or not.  Well, you got the right guy to solve that problem if it's from a blog that barely gets any traction (that would be me in case you were confused).  The news we get from the medium that is pro wrestling is an integral part of the online space.  The reason being is that it's not only a great conversation starter but you could also learn something new today about the industry you love.  That doesn't mean that all of the news you see on the timeline is reliable.  I'm here to hopefully give you a guide to wrestling sites.  There are many wrestling websites out there but I wanna highlight some of the notable ones.  Okay? Here we go.  #1: Wrestling Observer Newsletter aka F4WOnline.  I can't talk about a guide t...
