The 5 News Week: What's With The Reports Of AEW "Kicking Journalists Out Of The Post Media Scrum"?, More WWE Releases Are Coming!?

Hello, my fellow wrestling fans and welcome to the 5 news week. The post where I report 5 major or minor news of the week that I don't have time to do it separately. Without further ado, here are the 5 news week.

What's With The Reports Of AEW "Kicking Journalists Out Of The Post Media Scrum"?

AEW Dynamite Grades and Analysis – The Independent

Let's talk about this news because that is an example of how interpreting a narrative through one lens is extremely dangerous.

Last week, AEW All Out happened (click here to read my review for it) and so did the post-show scrum.

The aftermath of it saw a few publications running a story of All Elite Wrestling "removing scrum access to journalists that ask challenging questions".

In the article itself, they quoted a now-deleted tweet from a Bleacher Report writer, Jonathan Snowden saying:

'They are actively removing access from people who ask any challenging questions to them.'

Snowden then got hate for it and people were claiming that AEW was "shady".

People even brought up his Twitter history and it was not good, to say the least, but that has nothing to do with this.

I reached out to the guy via Twitter and Jonathan Snowden told me that he's gotten great access with WWE AND AEW.

I saw a bunch of tweets from notable journalists saying the exact same thing.

So, Why would a guy that's had a good experience with both parties say something like that?

AEW All Out Post-Show Scrum Notes — Lucha Central

Side note, one of the sites that shall not be named, noted that the questions were "all very positive".

So, I had to watch the AEW All Out scrum AGAIN and saw that it wasn't the case.

Tony Khan addressed the Matt Hardy situation and Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated followed up with a question in relation to Matt Hardy's concussion.

I'm going to end this story with this.

A journalist's job is to get answers no matter how challenging the question is or not.

Not every news writer's tweets are news. If they were news, trust me, they'll let you know.

NXT UK Conducting A Heritage Cup Tournament.

NXT UK 2020 - WWE NXT Results - WWE Shows Results History - Pro Wrestling Events Database

NXT UK is gearing up for a return to air new episodes on the WWE Network.

And Already, they got a tournament lined up.

It's called the Heritage Cup and the tournament will be conducted in British round rules.

Here are the rules according to WWE.com:

  • All matches consist of six three-minute rounds.
  • All matches are 2-out-of-3 Falls.
  • Falls can be won by pinfall, submission or count-out (I corrected the spelling because the original said, "falls can won be won" but I ain't faulting them because I've been there).
  • Once a fall occurs, the round ends.
  • The match ends once a wrestler has won two falls.
  • In the event of a disqualification or knockout, the match instantly ends without the need for two falls.
  • If all six rounds are completed, whomever is ahead on falls wins the match.
  • There will be a 20-second break between each round.

The 8 participants in the tournament are Noam Dar, Flash Morgan Webster, Alexander Wolfe, A-Kid, Trent Seven, Dave Mastiff, Joseph Conners and "a final wildcard entrant yet to be determined."

This isn't the first time that WWE used the "British Round" stipulation.

Last year, Kassius Ohno faced Sid Scala in a British Round match on NXT UK.

The only difference between that match and the tournament is that last year's match had 30-second breaks between each round while this has 20 seconds.

This should be fun.

More WWE Releases Are Coming!?

On Thursday, a long time WWE road agent, booker and Hall Of Famer, Gerald Brisco was released from WWE which is a shock given that he's been with the company since 1984.

The very next day, Wrestling Inc posted a report that WWE was letting go of people from the live event side of things.

The specifics were 12 to 15 people.

The report also stated that the people furloughed like Mike Rotunda and the aforementioned Gerald Brisco were let go altogether.

A source close to Wrestling Inc told them that the live event department "is in shambles"

Damn.

We're probably not going to have next year's Wrestlemania with a full crowd if that's the case.

Miro Is With AEW For How Long?

A year or at least that's what Pro Wrestling Sheet and Ryan Satin have reported (that's a site that I've not mentioned in quite some time).

Honestly, I hope nothing but the success for the former Rusev.

An Update Regarding Ivar's Injury.

Ivar's injury on RAW possibly worse than expected?

Ivar from the Viking Raiders suffered a cervical injury during an 8 man tag match against The Hurt Business.

For all of you slow mofos, a cervical is basically the neck area.

Dave Meltzer. You know, The person that is well-liked by everyone?

Well, he gave an update regarding the status of Ivar's injury basically stating that it's worse than a "stinger".

But, it isn't fully transparent whether Ivar needs surgery or not.

Whether the injury is worse or not, I wish him nothing but a fast recovery.

What do you think about the news I just reported and follow me on the tweets @omartheplayaguy? Anyways, stay safe smarks.

WWE Smackdown 21/1/22 | A Coherent Review.

Another week, another time Pat McAfee shows me why he's better than Corey Graves. Both in the ring AND on the commentary table.  As far as how I feel about this week's episode, it ain't good, people. It ain't good.  An Image via WWE.com   Sethy Mane Wanted A Tag Partner So….………. That he faces The Usos later in the show and if drippy Jesus wins, 2 out of 3 members of the Bloodline are barred off ringside in the blue title encounter (in case you were wondering, Kevin Owens was Seth's tag partner).  BUTTTTTTTTTTTT! The tribal chief had other ideas. He proposed a pitch where if the "burn it down" man loses the tag match, the Rumble match is gone, FINITO!  Bully Ray probably saw Seth Rollins' uttering Jox Moxley's name and reacted, "HOW DARE YOU!! BLASPHEMY!"  Fortunately for SR The Drip Mane, he got what he wanted via a DQ finish thanks to a superman punch from Roman Reigns. While the ending did protect the tag champs, the consequences of i...

WWE Smackdown 17/7/20 | A Coherent Review.

This recent instalment of Smackdown was decent.  The women, for the most part, was the standout in this program and it honestly carried the show from a meh to a decent watch.  The show started off with Jeff Hardy and Sheamus talking about the upcoming bar fight which you can scroll down to read my thoughts on it.  Sasha Banks and Bayley Gives Us A New Perspective Of The Word "Greatness".  The so-called "golden role models" were praising their greatness to which Nikki Cross was furious about the way she lost at Extreme Rules.  So, Nikki wanted a rematch for the SmackDown women's championship and Bayley accepted that bout if Nikki faces her best friend, Alexa Bliss to determine the number one contender.  That match started immediately after this segment and it was a good opener.  Bayley and Sasha Banks were entertaining in the commentary as per usual.  When Corey Graves brought the fact that Bayley didn't want t...

A Few Thoughts On RAW And Smackdown: RAW wasn't GREAT!?

Since this blog will be less of a priority now considering I'm focusing on my podcast now (hit the 5 stars on Apple Podcast you sons of b*tches), I decided to share my few thoughts on RAW, Smackdown, I guess?  Smackdown.  The blue brand delivered yet another good episode this week and it's probably due to the fact that Braun Strowman taking out the Maximum Model is high-key funny as f**k.  The folks over at Titan Towers are bringing back the essence of their characters whether it's Kevin Owens, Shayna Baszler or in this case, Big Braun himself.   As a fan, you gotta love it, especially since in the case of Strowman, the dude hasn't been the same since he turned heel 4 years ago when feuding with Roman Reigns for the universal title.   Other noteworthy segments include Logan Paul challenging Roman Reigns for the big world universal multiverse galactic cinematic championship.  Imagine they pulled that match off 7 years ago back when Logan was on V...
