The 5 News Week: What's Going On With Nia Jax As Of Late!?, Xavier Woods Talks About The Racial Injustice In The US.
Yes, The 5 New Week made its return after a 2-week hiatus and I wanna admit something to you guys.
Last year, I was really looking forward to 2020 and how unlike 2019, I'm actually going to maintain a schedule of articles I put out every week (which you can see the entire thing by clicking on the about page).
But, I certainly didn't and it really bothers me that I have to not publish an article due to personal life or a struggle with fighting against my mortal enemy, laziness.
The inconsistencies of the articles I publish will continue and that's the sad part. Anywho, on with the news.
What's Going On With Nia Jax As Of Late!?
Last week, Fightful Select and Sean Ross Sapp stated that Kairi Sane was badly injured that involved a cut on her head during a match with Nia Jax.
Now, whenever the words "x wrestler injured" and "Nia Jax" are in the same sentence then you'll know the rest of the song.
Fast forward to this past week's episode of Monday Night RAW and we saw the botched spot by Jax in full context.
A source told Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Radio (from WrestlingInc) that the spot was quote, "100% her fault" and followed up by saying that she should be fired.
Speaking of the Wrestling Observer, In the most recent edition of the Newsletter, Dave Meltzer mentioned that a wrestler who's a veteran in the industry said pretty much that it's Nia's fault.
It's interesting to point out that Tom Colohue over at Sportskeeda had heard from his sauces that WWE had viewed that spot as nothing but an accident and Kairi Sane blamed herself instead (from wrestlingworld). And that's the latest I could find regarding this particular situation from Nia Jax.
Nia is somebody that has a history of messing up in the ring whether it's punching Becky Lynch that gave the Irish Lass kicker a bloody nose and a concussion, failing to catch Charlotte Flair after Flair tried to hit her signature moonsault and so much more that it could be an article of its own.
The odd thing is, I've never seen Jax mess up a move in her tenure with NXT. Look, unfortunately, accidents happen in the wrestling business but Nia Jax is one of those performers that has been consistently botching moves that legitimately hurts her fellow wrestlers.
It's a shame too because in the interviews I've seen from her, she seems like a nice individual and I want to root for her in-ring success but the sad thing is, I can't.
New Japan And Stardom Are Planning To Continue To Showcase Live Shows!?
Bushiroad, the company that owns both NJPW and Stardom, had made an announcement that they're metaphorically speaking, trying to press the play button in order to continue live events. Here's what Bushiroad had to say (from 411MANIA):
"Bushiroad Co., Ltd. has cancelled and postponed many events from February in consideration of the situation of new coronavirus infection.
With the cancellation of the emergency declaration, we have decided to restart live events such as professional wrestling, stage performances, and live music performances, and have decided to carry out antibody tests for all athletes and performers for safety and security. I will inform you.
About carrying out antibody tests
For all live events such as New Japan Pro-wrestling performances, Stardom performances, theatrical group airship performances, and Bushiroad Music music live performances, a doctor will perform an antibody test in advance for all players and performers as well as staff members who are closely related."
NJPW tweeted out 2 days back that they're hosting a special online press conference that is scheduled to air this Tuesday.
I'm sure most of you NJPW fans are going to check out that livestream and that includes me, the resident WWE shill.
The Thoughts On The Drake Maverick Storyline.
Those storyline has received some mixed reactions from fans, pundits and even Lio Rush who was one of the many people that was released from WWE.
Triple H (from Forbes) claimed in a media conference call that the storyline wasn't a work saying:
"We already had the tournament booked out and I believe it was a little bit of a jumble, but we already had it promoted. Then, the releases happened, which is horrible,” said Triple H.
“No one wants to see anyone lose their job, especially in the world right now. A lot of companies, around the world, are having to make tough business decisions to ensure they’re still there. Difficult decisions were made. [Drake Maverick] was given the option of continuing the tournament and wanted to prove that he could still be here. "
I actually did a showcase about him in my special edition of The 5 News Week (which is now a tiny bit out of date) and ever since. I have one word to describe the Drake Maverick storyline and that's disgust.
The main reason why I'm not a fan of the story is the same reason why I'm not liking the Jeff Hardy angle and is that it uses real-life traumas and fictionalized it.
I understand that WWE wants to blur the lines between fiction and reality but I think the moral thing to do when deciding whether to turn a tragic real-life plot that causes internal pain, into a wrestling storyline or not is simple, don't do it.
Talks On Two NXT Stars Calling Up To RAW Or Smackdown!?
Prepare to get excited, at least in my case. If you've been watching Smackdown as of late then you'll know that Matt Riddle is moving on up straight to the blue brand.
There have been reports out there about two other NXT superstars that are entering Vince McMahon's world in RAW or Smackdown.
Those two performers are Dominic Djakovic and Chelsea Green. Wrestletalk broke the story regarding both potential call ups with Djakovic's story being confirmed by Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio. Dominic by the way, is scheduled to join the RAW brand.
I haven't been this excited for a call up since Finn Balor 4 years ago. Dominic will do wonders in RAW specifically in the mid-card.
I could see Chelsea Green join him in the red brand as the women's division over at Smackdown is actually stacked with talent. Hopefully, the creative minds in the writing team could play their cards well.
Xavier Woods Talks About Racial Injustice In The US.
The final news piece is a gem indeed. To give you guys the obvious context as to what's going on, There are so many black lives matter protests that have taken place in most of the US and some around the world.
In a segment of a live stream that was later uploaded to YouTube, Xavier Woods was reflecting on himself as a black man trying to make it in life (from Fightful):
"I didn't get it as a kid, but then throughout my life, he always made sure that I understood that I had to work twice as hard as some people in order to get treated the same.
And no, not love situations, not even the same. So when you do everything that you possibly can, you know, you educate yourself, you learn to be an athlete, you learn to play an instrument, you're in AP classes.
You're doing everything that you can and you're doing it because you want to learn these things, you won't understand these things."
Woods went on to speak out against police brutality saying that he wants the racial inequality to end:
“I want this all to stop. It's been happening for too long. It's not just become a problem now. It hasn't just become a problem. The last 10 years, 20 years has been a problem since black people were brought to America," he continued.
"Everything that we have done is always just asked to not be executed. On armed people getting murdered in the middle of the street, people being shot 41 times by undercover police while they're just trying to get into their door. Sleeping in your bed, where you're supposed to be safe, people busting in the door and shooting and murdering you and people seem to not care or when people hear about it and their response is, 'well, what were you doing to make that happen?' Why is it on us? It's always on us."
Before anybody gets butthurt about people are supporting black lives, understand that this is a human issue.
Your fellow human beings are getting killed by police because of their skin colour. This is a societal issue that is in desperate need to be fixed.
Also, I wanna mention something else. I've been tagged in a few of the "support black creators" tweets (which is shocking given that I'm an absolute NOBODY in the wrestling community) and to those new visitors, I appreciate you taking the time out of your day to read my articles.
However, if you want to support black content creators then actually support them by engaging with their content, sharing their content with friends and pledging their crowd-funding service of choice like Patreon if you're financially able.
I'll end this long edition of The 5 News Week with 3 words, Black lives matter.
What do you think about the news I just reported and follow me on the tweets @omartheplayaguy. Anyways, stay safe smarks.
