Hello, my fellow wrestling fans and welcome to the 5 news week. The post where I report 5 major or minor news of the week that I don't have time to do it separately.
This week felt like a month when it comes to news so let’s talk about what’s going on. Without further ado, here are the 5 news week.
The entertainment industry could lose over $20 billion dollars and WWE is one of those entities especially pertaining Wrestlemania and it's business.
From Wrestlenomics, The host of the show, Brandon Thruston dives into WWE financials yet again (because that's the theme of the show duh?) and finds out that this year's Wrestlemania could lose around $20 million. Here's what the host Brandon Thurston had to say regarding the situation (that episode is a week old so excuse the outdated saying):
"Let's say the 65,000 paid at an average ticket price so let's go with last year's average ticket price of 268 {pulls out a calculator and calculated the 65,000 seats in Raymond James stadium times the ticket price of last year's Wrestlemania venue in 268 which the answer was 17.4 million}. That would be breaking the all-time record."
Brandon then went on to say that 17.4 million number is too aggressive so he instead calculated the ticket price for the Superdome times the stadium capacity of 60,000 and the answer was 16 million dollars which he adds the 4 million from each Wrestlemania weekend events:
"Let's say in ticket sales plus the 4 events at the arena so we're asked a million dollars each for those so I'm gonna add 4 to that you get 20 million dollars here. Now, we need to take a guess at venue merch {looks at the venue spreadsheet tab} we look at the venue merch tab and want to get an idea of what Wrestlemania quarters do compared to others so we can see here in Q2 which contains Wrestlemania for all 4 years that we're looking at here and so last year does 7.1, the other quarters do 3.2, 3.5, 4.8. So, take the average of the non-Wrestlemania quarters is 3.8 so that's a difference of 3.3 million dollars {which he later adds the 3.3 million dollars number and it is 23 million}."
Speaking of the 4 million dollars, when he talked about Wrestlemania's ticket sales, Brandon mentioned how much WWE will make in ticket revenue in all of their weekend shows before Wrestlemania itself:
"{Looks at the Ticketmaster site} You've got Hall Of Fame on Thursday, Smackdown on Friday, {NXT} Takeover On Saturday, Wrestlemania Itself On Sunday {looks for the Wrestlemania tickets section and mentions the WWE's Wrestlemania weekend again quickly} and RAW and I can for a quick and easy estimate I'm just gonna guess that all of this would produce something around a million-dollar gate so that's 4 million dollars right there in ticket revenue."
And yes, I didn't specifically talk about how the network will make around the road to Wrestlemania which Brandon actually did so but I'm focusing on the venue revenue only.
In other words, they're gonna lose a lot of money. Don't know how WWE or any other entertainment company will come back from this but hopefully, it is a speedy recovery for the entire wrestling industry.

Last year, AEW debuted its first PPV show to kick off the summertime in the MGM Grand area called "Double Or Nothing" and it was widely praised (rightfully so).
The company wants to make that a tradition of some sort by scheduling the second annual show but that could be nixed given that we're in a global pandemic right now.
However, the officials over at the MGM resort Las Vegas stated that the shows are ready for a comeback in Mid-May considering that the government in that city announced that the casinos will shut down for 30 days (from the Las Vegas Review-Journal). What does that mean for AEW's Las Vegas theme show?
Well, it does show some optimism that the show will air on that date (23rd of May) but given that movies like Black Widow which was going to hit theatres in North America on May 1st, was pulled from release, we don't know if Double Or Nothing will be done and over with as scheduled.
We also do not know if we're staying in quarantine for a longer period of time until the coronavirus is under control. I for one, do think that the show will be delayed at least but who knows?
Sticking with the AEW theme, this past week's AEW Dynamite episode saw the debut of the exalted one aka Luke Harper aka Brodie Lee (which you can click here to read my recap for AEW Dynamite).
Who was the original person to lead the dark squad? Other than a couple of rumours, it was Brodie, it was him all along according to Mike Johnson over at PWINSIDER.
That's cool. Brodie is a well-known great in-ring wrestler as well as an underrated promo person so this should be intriguing to witness.
Eve Torres in my opinion, got better and better in the ring to the point where I thought she was one of the best in-ring performers in the formerly known "divas" division.
She sat down with DS Shin on the YouTube channel Ring The Belle and talked about her highlights in the biggest pro wrestling company of the world. One of the key notable moments was when Eve mentioned why she left WWE (from Wrestling-Inc):
"I honestly felt like there was a ceiling for me that I was not able to break," Torres recalled. "We've come so far. Where the women's division is now, if you had told me when I was there that women were gonna headline WrestleMania. I would have said, 'Get out of here. That's never gonna happen.' I felt like I was being controlled by other things that weren't just me or my skill set or my work ethic, and I didn't like that."
If she returns to World Wrestling Entertainment, I think it would be a great benefit in the division, especially in the current era.
I'm sure most of you are practising social distancing (hopefully all of you do) and the good folks over at ESPN got you covered.
Starting today, ESPN's flagship channel will air three of the Wrestlemania 30s from Wrestlemania 30 till Wrestlemania 35.
I think it's a great idea as it gives a lot of exposure for WWE and it could lead to people signing up for the network to check out the two-day event, Wrestlemania 36.
To the rest of the world, well you have the option on either watching the whole thing on the network or not. Enjoy yourselves and hopefully, you can skip the air date for Wrestlemania 32.
What do you think about the news I just reported and follow me on the tweets @omartheplayaguy. Anyways, stay safe smarks.
