My Coherent Wrestling Wednesdays: Dream Off, The Velveteen Dream Has Returned, MJF Whips Cody 10 Times With A Belt (No Sh*t).
After weeks of inconsistencies, I'm finally going to review both NXT and AEW Dynamite in a reasonable time and not almost a week later so the lesson learned? This may sound cheese pizza as The Rock once said but consistency is key.
Now that I've got that taken care of (will see in the future, Omar), it is time to air my thoughts on WWE's legit third brand and AEW's main television show and if there's one thing that both shows had in common and that's it had a superb ending.
It was so great that it's actually hard to choose which wrestling show on Wednesday had a better ending.
I still prefer NXT because I'm the resident WWE shill but don't take away how good Dynamite was too.
NXT
Highlights.
Matt Riddle And Pete Dunne Rides With Their Big Prize Win….. Literally.
Pete Dunne and Matt Riddle expressed their confidence in beating The Undisputed Era to become NXT tag team champions.
Undisputed Era in Kyle O'Reilly tells Peter "Dune" and Matthew "Riddell" that they've disrespected the legacy of the Dusty Rhodes tag team classic to which Bobby Fish replied saying that there is a bigger fish to fry than those two jerks. Riddle like myself, giggled at the fact that Bobby Fish just said "fish".
Matt Riddle turned that into a song with the chorus of "how many fish could Bobby Fish fry if Bobby Fish could fry fish?" And that's how the segment ended.
Matthew Riddell is something I cannot get out of my head like how William Regal pronounces Umaga's name.
This was an entertaining segment and worthy of being called a highlight. I mean, Matt Riddle's song about Fish is a highlight itself.
Angel Garza vs Isiah Swerve Scott.
Fresh off Garza's impressive main roster showcase, he and Scott carried out a very good match but he took the W with the winged clipper.
He then called out the current NXT cruiserweight champion Jordan Devlin for a championship opportunity.
Devlin was in the best match of 2020 so far with Tyler Bate and given that Angel Garza is equally as talented, who doesn't wait to see that? Speaking of the champion….
Tyler Breeze vs Jordan Devlin.
I don't watch 205 Live but is Tyler Breeze as vicious as this bout because Damn Tyler! Delving hits the springboard cutter but Breeze survives.
What Breeze didn't survive was a brutal headbutt followed by a side suplex. A fun match.
Charlotte Respond To Rhea Ripley's Challenge About An Upcoming NXT Title Match At Wrestlemania.
Bianca Belair inserted herself in this and both the challenger in Belair and Rhea Ripley took out Charlotte with a double electric chair drop.
I don't know why but Charlotte (possibly) facing Rhea Ripley at Wrestlemania reminds me of when Cena faced Triple H at Wrestlemania 22.
The young champion faces the accomplished and respected veteran at the show of shows. I'm not the only one thinking that? The answer is probably yes but I can't resist the parallels.
Dream Off, The Velveteen Dream Has Returned.
The Undisputed Era ended their 6 man tag team match against Ciampa, Dunne And Riddle with a DQ thanks to Roderick Strong and Cole sprayed the letter "X" in yellow on Ciampa's back.
Then, The Undisputed Era looked at the screen that had 3 circles aligned with each other which were the queue for Velveteen Dream to show up and take out the group that put him out of action.
I knew that Velveteen Dream was cleared for action and I thought they would surprise us with this return at Portland but I was wrong. Welcome back, Velveteen.
Some Other Things That Happened.
Dominic Djakovic vs Killian Dain - Djakovic wins with a heavy feast your eyes to Killian Dain.
The North American title match between Dominic Djakovic and Keith Lee at Takeover: Portland is now official and I'm excited as ever.
Finn Balor And Johnny Gargano Argue Going Into Portland. Picture To Picture Interview - Exactly as it sounds. The closing moments of this whole thing was when Johnny says that he'll take the NXT flag and put it in Finn's heart, Balor countered that with "I don't have a heart".
That last line made his demon character the good side of his personality.
Mercedes Martinez vs Kacy Catanzaro - Martinez wins this short encounter. Great to see Mercedes finally wrestling in the big leagues. Her talents absolutely deserve that.
AEW.
Highlights.
SCU vs Best Friends.
![]() |
yes. I know the quality sucks. |
SCU takes the W with a boot from Scorpio Sky into sunset flip by Frank Kazarian.
After the match, The Dark Order makes their statement again by beating the winners and the losers of this match. Evil Uno tried to recruit Orange Cassidy but he refused.
They ganged up on the freshly squeezed one to which Christopher Daniels showed up and The Dark Order slowly backed off. Hmmm. Is Daniels the leader?
I feel like Daniels being a leader in a dark faction actually fits him so I'm not surprised if it's finally revealed that he joined the group. The match itself was fine though.
The Butcher And The Blade vs The Youngs Bucks, Kenny Omega And Hangman Page.

yes. I know the quality sucks. |
This was a good one. The closing moments of the match was when Page refused to tag the Young Bucks leading to a pin from Pentagon Jr after the Lucha Brothers delivered a double package driver.
Pac in the titantron pressured Omega on facing him after he tried to intimate the AEW women's champion and Kenny accepted his challenge but Pac said that he may be the bastard but he isn't a beast which led to Nyla Rose hitting Riho on her back and delivered a powerbomb on the table.
I was about to say that feuding with one of the tag champs is questionable considering that it distracts the championship scene on the tag division.
However, there will be an AEW world tag team championship match on next week's episode so it surely looks like that PAC will cost Kenny Omega the titles next at least I hope that's the case.
By the way, they're facing each other in a few weeks in a 30-minute ironman match and I'm intrigued.
MJF Whips Cody 10 Times With A Belt (No Sh*t).

yes. I know the quality sucks. |
Gotta give Cody a lot of props for taking 10 lashes like that. I'm 100% not doing it because I'm a coward. I thought the idea of this was dumb but the way it was executed was fantastic.
Having Cody's family and friends show up to support and give him some words of encouragement reminds me of when the main character is in a coma and the other B characters express their love for the main character while they look at him.
Don't know why I brought up that analogy but I thought it made sense. By far, the best segment I've seen from Dynamite so far.
I wanna talk about MJF as a character for a bit as it is a great example of wrestling fans being so fickle (including this guy writing this review).
I used to think that MJF is one of the best characters in professional wrestling but I feel like the taste of the MJF Koolaid is getting flavourless by the months after observing the guy.
Some folks love that simplicity aspect of that character and that's awesome if they feel that way but I want more in a villain character than just "I'm a dick" ya know?
Some Other Things That Happened.
Jon Moxley vs Ortiz - This was aight. Moxley wins with the DDT.
After nailing another DDT to Santana, Moxley took the car key and hits it on Santana's eye. An eye for an eye they say. Also, that backstage promo from Santana hyping up his match with Moxley was fantastic.
Britt Baker vs Yuka Sakazaki - Apparently, Britt Baker lost the match with a roll-up.
Then, Baker went in total meltdown mode by hitting Yuka Sakazaki with a ring bel and put Sakazaki's teeth on the ring ropes and stomp it. And yes, that move took out one of Yuka's tooth. So much for being a good dentist.
Kip Sabian vs Joey Janela - The super bad wins with a roll-up to Joey after he took out Penelope Ford with an Irish whip. Meh.
The question is, what are some of the highlights on both episodes in your opinion? Let me know in the comments below and follow me on Twitter @omartheplayaguy. Anyways, stay safe smarks.
