My Coherent Wrestling Wednesdays: NWA Powerr Review This Week But No NXT, Cody's Stellar Match With Darby Allin.

A show I'm not reviewing this week is NXT as it was a glorified award show but better than the slammys at least.

Given that a particular show with an old school feel aired their episode the same day as NXT and AEW, I'm going to review NWA Powerr.

Look, I've seen some episodes of Powerr and they're really good but I've not seen every episode so excuse my ignorance. Now, the question is, which show do I prefer? NWA Power. Now, On with the recap.

NWA Powerr

Highlights.

Tim Storm And Nick Aldis Battle Of Promos.

Both guys were hyping their upcoming match later that night and it was great. Aldis told Storm to break the rules (assuming that he wants Storm to do something that a typical babyface wouldn't) but Storm refused to do so. Again, a great way to kick off and build to the main event match.

Aaron Stevens vs Sal Rinauro.

The man formerly known as Damien Sandow wins this match with a clutch submission and he kept the hold on until Trevor Murdock showed up to save Sal.

In an after match promo, Murdock mentioned that Stevens is doing his dirty tactics to take advantage of the young guys and basically challenge him to a match which the black belt holder accepts. The match started immediately after that promo and Aaron lost here with the Indian deathlock.

Man, WWE dropped the ball on the guy and that promo on how he's a black belt holder proved it.

Eli Drake's New Year Plans.

Drake's plan for the year is some gold in his waist. A tag team gold to be exact but he doesn't have a partner but out came Colt Cabana and Ken Anderson and they had a verbal brawl.

I'm familiar with Eli Drake as a performer but I didn't expect the level of greatness and finesse in that promo. Also, he's teaming up with James Storm to face Colt Cabana and Ken Anderson next week so it should be interesting.

Nick Aldis vs Tim Storm. NWA TV Title Qualifying Match.

Aldis and his posse came out but the champ didn't show up in ring gear. He teased a possible bout between himself and Storm but he instead brought his stablemate Royce Isaacs to face Tim Storm in a 6-minute time limit. This was a decent match for the short amount of time they were given.

Issacs was about to hit his finish called "hush money" but Storm reversed it into the perfect Storm which is a spinning belly suplex.

A disappointed look at Aldis' face after that lost and behind him were The Rock And Roll Express telling him to never turn your back on your opponent that's how the show ends.

I like the surprise by the tag team veterans. They're still killing it in 2020 and we're happy for it.

Some Other Things That Happened.

Tasha Steelz vs Marti Belle - Steelz wins with a cutter. An okay match but it is to expect from a show like Powerr and honestly, those types of matches fit as long as the stories are intriguing which it is.

AEW

Highlights.

Cody vs Darby Allin.

They started 2020 with a fun opening match. Cody throws Allin with a reverse cutter from the top rope. Allin countered that with another top rope move this time a sunset flip followed by a coffin drop meer moments.

Darby was about to hit the second coffin drop this time inside the ring but Cody lifted his knees and rolled him up to win the first AEW match of 2020. Hats off to both guys for this bout. Is it better than their Fyter Fest match? I would say so.

MJF Reveals The Stipulation Match For His Upcoming Match With Cody.

Speaking of which, That stipulation revealed by MJF was more than just one. For starters, Cody must face Wardlow next week in a steel cage. Secondly, Cody can’t touch MJF until their match at Revolution and thirdly, Cody must get down with all fours and whips him with a belt 10 times. Damn, that's a lot of scars on Cody's back. Oh, and he cuts a promo about his hatred for Cody which was great. Also, am I going crazy or is it when MJF went louder in his promo, he sounded a bit like Ric Flair? Maybe just me? Okay then.

Some Other Things That Happened.

Riho vs Hikaru Shida vs Nyla Rose vs Britt Baker D.M.D For The AEW Women's Championship -  A dull match overall but that senton from Rose to Shida through a table will probably never get old.

Riho retains with a jackknife pin to Britt Baker. Oh, and a post-match beatdown happened from Nyla Rose to Riho.

Jox Moxley vs Trent - The first half of this match one-sided match and so was the finish. Moxley wins with the DDT.

After the match, Sammy Guevara came out to show Moxley a video of Chris saying that if he joins then he'll get a Ford GT along with 49% ownership of Inner Circle. Will have to wait and see if Moxley made his choice or not next week.

Dustin Rhodes vs Sammy Guevara - We've not seen Dustin on TV in quite some time so it's good to see him here.

Rhodes teased a possible shatter dreams but Guevara pulled the ref and Hager hit a shatter dreams if you can call it that without the ref's knowledge and just like that, Guevara wins here. Solid match.

The Young Bucks And Kenny Omega vs Lucha Brothers And Pac - A decent main event. The babyface team wins with a one-winged angel from Kenny Omega to Fenix. Also, Hangman Page had alcohol in hand during this match so I hope that it isn't a repeat of that awful Scott Hall story from WCW and goes nowhere.

The Coherent Wrestling Wednesdays: Fyter Fest 2020 Came Back Swinging?

Last week, on this very series, I said that I enjoyed Great American Bash better than Fyter Fest.  Well, this week is the exact opposite. AEW came in swinging with night 2 Fyter Fest.  I've not liked a Dynamite episode in several weeks so it's nice to see that the show finally executed a great show since God knows how long.   NXT      Highlights (at least in my opinion because wrestling is subjective).  Mia Yim vs Candice LeRae In A Street Fight. The match went underway after Yim quickly attacked Candice LeRae during LeRae's entrance.  In the crowd area, Candice tried to nail the suplex on the table but Yim got out of that position and kicked her to which she landed through the table.  The Streetfight concluded with LeRae striking Yim with the brass knuckles followed by a swinging neck from the top of the table onto a bunch of chairs and that's how LeRae defeats the HBIC.  A fun opening match even though...

WWE Smackdown Season Premiere | A Coherent Review.

It is the season premiere of Friday night Smackdown even though WWE doesn't have an offseason.  Nevertheless, it was a decent program and had a WAY better ending than whatever the hell of an ending last year's premiere of Friday night Smackdown showed.  There isn't a women's match this week and all of the AEW fanboys are looking at this like, "sEe, WWE dOeSn't feATuRe wOmeN'S mAtChEs aLsO."  pictures via WWE.com The Season Premiere Of Smackdown 2020.  The show started off with Triple H and Stephanie McMahon highlighting the scheduled matches for Smackdown as well as the superstars.  Chaos then ensued thanks to a huge brawl. Then, the "super freak" Lars Sullivan came out and delivered the freak accident to Shorty G.  Somehow, Jeff Hardy attacked him and that led to the opening match of the night between Lars and Jeff.  You know, I'm kind of surprised that two white people in McMahon and Hemsley knew who Rick James is.  Maybe I'm igno...

WWE Smackdown 4/2/22 | A Coherent Review.

Gotta be honest guys, this episode didn't do it for me.  Besides the announcement of Ronda Rousey challenging Charlotte Flair for the blue women's belt at Wrestlemania as well as another challenge proposed by Goldberg aka NoBerg to the tribal chief, this, like last week's show, was as skippable as an anime filler episode.  Paul Heyman Was Like, "F**k That Brock Guy!"  Brock and Paul legit need some counselling because they've broken up and reunited together like my relationship with the Call of Duty franchise. To quote Gordon Ramsey, "DAMN! DAMN! DAMN! DAMN!"  All lame banter aside, Paul Heyman's promos before Goldberg's appearance was the only good thing throughout the entire show.  As far as how I feel about the idea of Goldberg facing Roman Reigns at the upcoming Elimination Chamber show, major Ls on this one.   Ricochet vs Ridge Holland.  Yay, the "one on one match that later turned into a tag match" cliche. The difference is t...
