The Coherent Wrestling Wednesdays: Fyter Fest 2020 Came Back Swinging?

Last week, on this very series, I said that I enjoyed Great American Bash better than Fyter Fest.

Well, this week is the exact opposite. AEW came in swinging with night 2 Fyter Fest.

I've not liked a Dynamite episode in several weeks so it's nice to see that the show finally executed a great show since God knows how long.

NXT

Highlights (at least in my opinion because wrestling is subjective).

Mia Yim vs Candice LeRae In A Street Fight.

WWE Photo

The match went underway after Yim quickly attacked Candice LeRae during LeRae's entrance.

In the crowd area, Candice tried to nail the suplex on the table but Yim got out of that position and kicked her to which she landed through the table.

The Streetfight concluded with LeRae striking Yim with the brass knuckles followed by a swinging neck from the top of the table onto a bunch of chairs and that's how LeRae defeats the HBIC.

A fun opening match even though I've not been the biggest fan of the Mia Yim/Keith Lee/Johnny Gargano/ Candice LeRae storyline. A solid showing from Mia Yim and Candice LeRae.

The Video Package For The Io Shirai vs Tegan Nox NXT Women's Championship Match Next Week.

This video package between both women showcasing their similarities whether it's leaving their respective hometowns or needing support to get ahead in their careers.

It is a video that really made me look forward to the women's championship next week. Should be a great match.

Adam Cole vs Keith Lee For Both The NXT And The North American Championships.

WWE Photo

During the match,  Keith Lee went through the plexiglass after Cole ran from a tackle by Lee. Another thing that Cole reversed was a possible moonsault from Lee.

However, Lee tried to hit the moonsault again and it was successful. Cole delivered two last shots and Lee somehow survived that one.

After hitting the spirit bomb, Keith Lee nailed the big bag catastrophe to retain the North American championship while winning the NXT championship at the same time.

A very, very, very, very good main event. Will see how NXT writes Keith Lee as a double champion.

It's sad that Adam Cole's reign as NXT champion came to an end but what a run that was. Probably the best NXT championship run since Finn Balor.

Some Other Things That Happened.

Bronson Reed vs Tony Nese - This was okay. Nothing too unique in this match. Reed wins with a big splash from the top rope.

Johnny Gargano vs Isiah Swerve Scott - Swerve Scott is probably the best part of this okay match. It was basically a typical "lower midcard wrestler having a competitive match with an upper-tier wrestler". Gargano takes the W with the one final beat DDT.

Drake Maverick And Breezango vs El Legado De La Fantasma - Another meh match of the night. El Legado De La Fantasma won the match with the phantom driver from Santos Escobar to Drake Maverick.

Given that Maverick is supposedly a number one contender for the cruiserweight championship, having him take the pinfall like that doesn't make a whole lotta sense to me.

Mercedes Martinez vs Santana Garrett - I'm sad that they eliminated Martinez's old theme song.

WWE Photo

The music that they replaced with isn't good but it could be decent after a couple or so listens. Martinez defeats Santana with the fisherman buster.

AEW

Highlights (we get it, it's subjective).

Private Party vs Kenny Omega And Hangman Page For The AEW World Tag Team Championship.

Private Party are finally getting a tag team title shots, shots, shots, shots, shots (I'll stop). Now, that was a good opening contest.

At one point, Marq Quen hits the shooting star press on Hangman Page to a near fall. The match ended with a double team clothesline/ knee strike combination.

Darby Allin Calls Out Brian Cage In A Short Filmed Promo Which Led To a Taz Promo.

The promo in question, included a title being given by Taz to Brian Cage and that title is the FTW championship because to quote Taz, Brian's the meanest son of a b*tch.

If Moxley loses the AEW championship to Brian Cage then Darby could be Cage's first feud so the promo was a strategic planning to do just that and you know what?  I like it.

Side note, Taz bringing back his ECW FTW championship is kinda cool. What a throwback right there.

The Young Bucks And FTR vs Lucha Brothers, Butcher And The Blade.

The bad guys win the tag match even though the Jackson brothers and FTR worked well with each other throughout the match.

It seems to me that the friendship built between The Bucks of youth and FTR is a storyline being told which leads to an eventual match between those teams. If a that's the case, I'm liking it.

Chris Jericho vs Orange Cassidy.

AEW gave then almost 20 minutes and it was worth every single second of it because that was a good main event encounter.

Orange delivered a superkick or as I like to call it, the "lazy" kick.

Santana and Ortiz tried to interfere but Best Friends strikes on proud and powerful made sure that didn't happen.

A great back and forth later and you saw Jericho hit the Judas effect to win this match.

I'll go as far as to say that it was a match of the year contender. What a great match. Hats off to the GOAT and Orange Cassidy for that performance.

Some Other Things That Happened.

Lance Archer vs Joey Janela - During Archer's entrance, the big man threw Sonny Kiss onto Joey.

Moments later, Sonny did a beautiful 450 without the ref's witness. Archer ended the bout with a blackout through a table. It was aight.

Nyla Rose Squashes Some Jobbers But What She Have To Say After That? - Rose told the audience that she got a manager of her own because if there's one thing in common with wrestlers aligning themselves alongside managers in AEW is that they are all champions.

Who could be Nyla Rose's mouthpiece? We shall see.

SCU vs The Dark Order And Colt Cabana - Thanks to Brodie Lee's discus clothesline on Christopher Daniels, Lee gave Colt Cabana the opportunity to pin Daniels and win a meh tag team match.

Big Swole Damages Britt Baker's Nose - Big Swole was banned from the arena and it was mainly due to Britt Baker. So, Swole took her frustrations on Baker by throwing an object on Baker's nose. Britt Baker acting like a Vivian over here.

The question is, what are some of the highlights of both episodes in your opinion? Let me know in the comments below and follow me on Twitter @omartheplayaguy. Anyways, I gotta get some sleep so stay safe smarks.

WrestleFest DXB's Fahrenheit 971 | A Coherent W.

Being a fan of pro wrestling (or any other medium of entertainment) does have its pros and cons when engaging with the industry as a whole.  On one hand, you've witnessed an Eddie Kingston promo that'll make you tear up more than the opening scene of Up.  On the other hand, going to the wrestling subreddit will definitely have you questioning humanity as a whole and the fact that living in an area where a wrestling presence pretty much doesn't exist like a Vince Russo-written storyline that is, you know, GOOD!?  Luckily, the latter retracted my con as a fan because I'm talking about Wrestlefest DXB and their latest joint, "971 Fahrenheit".  Martin Bushby of now Post Wrestling Alumni brought the event to my attention because like a wrestler on an episode of RAW I get distracted all the time.  So, I decided to take a short journey to a taxi then a bus then a train then a 30-minute walk to the show itself and I know I'm going to sound biased as f**k but I l...

Let's Talk About The White Rabbit In The Room.

I haven't reviewed last year's show mainly because it was so good and clearly as extreme as any ECW match and I'm happy to tell all 3 of y'all that this one is better by several inches or so. Why? *slaps my bald head* HERE'S WHY. The opening match between Sheamus and Gunther's crew ruled harder than the Mongolian empire.  It was basically an enhanced version of Sheamus' match with Gunther last night on Smackdown and I loved it.  The Brawling Brutes' victory means one thing that is clearly obvious, a rematch between Sheamus and Gunther for the intercontinental championship aka the only series of rematches I don't mind.  Ronda Rousey and Liv Morgan delivered in what was a wrestling match equivalent to the X-Men Dark Phoenix movie.  While Bianca Belair and Bayley had their equivalent to the first Iron Man movie in that it was decent.  Drew McIntyre and Karrion Kross had an okay edition of the "Meaty men slapping meat".  That spear from Edge to...

A Few Thoughts On RAW And Smackdown: RAW wasn't GREAT!?

Since this blog will be less of a priority now considering I'm focusing on my podcast now (hit the 5 stars on Apple Podcast you sons of b*tches), I decided to share my few thoughts on RAW, Smackdown, I guess?  Smackdown.  The blue brand delivered yet another good episode this week and it's probably due to the fact that Braun Strowman taking out the Maximum Model is high-key funny as f**k.  The folks over at Titan Towers are bringing back the essence of their characters whether it's Kevin Owens, Shayna Baszler or in this case, Big Braun himself.   As a fan, you gotta love it, especially since in the case of Strowman, the dude hasn't been the same since he turned heel 4 years ago when feuding with Roman Reigns for the universal title.   Other noteworthy segments include Logan Paul challenging Roman Reigns for the big world universal multiverse galactic cinematic championship.  Imagine they pulled that match off 7 years ago back when Logan was on V...
